The Year 6 children at Broadclyst had a fantastic time at Haven Banks last week. The first activity of the week was raft building, the children got suited up with buoyancy aids, helmets and paddles ready for their afternoon on the water. It was great to see all the children work as a team to build strong rafts using ropes, wooden poles and barrels before sailing them successfully to the finish line. They listened carefully to their team captains to make sure they were going in a straight line.
On Thursday and Friday, the children returned to Exeter Quay to race on Dragon Boats. After a brief introduction and a few safety tips from the guides, the children paired up and entered their boats. All children did especially well to keep in time with the beating drum, and by the time they were finished they were exhausted, therefore, to end their second day they enjoyed a well- deserved ice cream by the river.
For many of the Year 6 children, their highlight was at the end of their sessions where they were able to jump into the Quay as well as convincing some teachers to as well!
